What Is Acupressure?
Long before people learned to use acupuncture needles, they already understood the healing
power of touch. Their hands were their first instrument of care, their first medicine, and their
first way of restoring balance.

It is from this simple, mindful touch that the earliest healing practices are believed to have
emerged—practices that gradually evolved into what we now know as acupressure.

Acupressure is one of the oldest therapeutic methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It
involves the gentle stimulation of specific acupuncture points located along the body's
meridians.

Its purpose is not simply to relieve pain or reduce symptoms. Its deeper aim is to support the
body's natural ability to restore harmony and maintain health.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi (氣)—the vital energy of life—flows
continuously through the body's network of meridians. When this flow is balanced, the body functions in harmony. When Qi becomes stagnant, deficient, or excessive, the body begins to send subtle signals. At first we notice tension. Then discomfort. Over time, these imbalances may develop into illness.

Rather than fighting symptoms, acupressure supports the body's own capacity for self-
regulation. It creates the conditions in which the body's natural healing intelligence can
awaken and restore balance from within.

De Rui 2 Qigong teaches much more than the location of acupuncture points. It teaches the
art of mindful touch—where breath, presence, and intention work together to guide the body
back to harmony. Every point becomes a conversation with the body rather than a mechanical
technique of applying pressure.

The Power of Simplicity

One of the greatest strengths of acupressure is its simplicity.

It requires no special equipment.

No complicated preparations.

No extraordinary conditions.

The most important tools are always with you—your own hands, especially your thumbs and
fingertips.

With proper guidance, many fundamental techniques can be practiced safely at home. In this
way, acupressure can become a natural part of everyday life.

As natural as conscious breathing.

As natural as Qigong.

As natural as meditation.

Even a few minutes of calm practice using carefully selected acupuncture points can help
release tension, quiet the mind, and remind the body of its innate ability to restore balance.

Simplicity Requires Awareness

Simple does not mean casual.

Every acupuncture point has its own unique function, and every person responds differently.

For this reason, acupressure requires knowledge—but even more than knowledge, it requires
awareness.

When practiced gently and correctly, acupressure is safe for most people. However, excessive
or inappropriate pressure may cause discomfort, irritate tissues, or aggravate existing
conditions.

Some acupuncture points should never be stimulated under certain circumstances, including
pregnancy, recent injuries, inflammatory skin conditions, or serious cardiovascular disease.

For this reason, it is worth remembering two simple principles:
The greater the knowledge, the greater the effectiveness.
The greater the awareness, the greater the safety.

Acupressure in the De Rui 2 Qigong System

In classical acupressure, we learn to locate acupuncture points.

In De Rui Qigong, we first learn to find ourselves.

This is where genuine practice begins.

Acupressure is more than a therapeutic technique.

It is a meeting.

A meeting of breath.

Of awareness.

Of touch.

And of Qi.

Applying pressure is only the beginning. It is simply the physical point of contact with the
body. The true practice takes place beyond what the eyes can see.

In the De Rui Qigong tradition, we say:

First arises Yì (意)—conscious intention.
Breath follows intention.
Breath guides Qi.
Only then does touch emerge.

For this reason, the thumb and fingertips are not the source of healing. They are simply where
contact with the body begins.

The real transformation takes place within the practitioner.

When intention, breath, and Qi move together, touch becomes more than physical contact.

It becomes a quiet dialogue between human awareness and the body's innate wisdom.
