For the Chinese, the turtle is sacred and symbolizes longevity, healing power and endurance.

There are countless stories about the longevity of turtles and their ability to transform into other forms. In Taoist art, the turtle is an emblem of the triad earth-people-sky.

The turtle holds a prominent position as a symbol of important concepts in religion, mythology and folklore from around the world, including steadfastness and calmness. A turtle's longevity is suggested by its longevity and its shell, which for some symbolizes protection from all enemies. For the Chinese as well as the Indians, the turtle symbolizes the universe. In Chinese culture we find descriptions “the upper dome-shaped part of its back has various signs, which correspond to the constellations in the sky, and this is Yang; the lower part has many lines that relate to the earth and are Yin.

In the cosmological myths of several cultures, a world turtle carries the world on its back or supports the sky. Around the world, the turtle can be seen as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge and with the healing power it contains, it can defend itself on its own.

During my stays in China, I have met the turtle sculpture in many wonderful places, mainly in the Taoist and Buddha temples where I learned turtle meditation and qigong. There they honor and practice the meditation of the turtle.

It is with this background that I pick up and pass on the turtle meditation which, just like in China, can probably also extend your life and become a powerful tool in your healing process.
